Dierks Bentley and DB Congress

I became a fan of Dierks Bentley the very first time I saw him live in early 2004. He was opening for Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban. My Aunt is the one who was getting tickets and wanted to know if I wanted to go and I said "Sure!". We had 5th row and it was a great show, but that night changed my life. I was instantly hooked on Dierks, and I still am. Neither Kenny or Keith won me over as much as Dierks did although the other two performers are pretty good. Soon after the show I checked about Dierks' website for any shows around the area and to my luck I got to see him two more times that year. I later joined the Street Team which helps promote an artist by requesting current singles on radio, posting flyers for local shows, etc. Well, I was all into that and loved talking to fellow fans on the message board and meeting new people who had the same interest as me at shows.

Since 2004, I have seen him 10 times in concert. There are many others who travel further than I do to see him and have seen him a lot more than I have, but I just can't do that right now...maybe once I finally graduate and get a teaching job and save some money I can go a little further than 4 hrs away to see him or any of my favorite artists. Dierks has always put on great shows whether the venue was strict about cameras, rude security/crowd, etc and I have been fortunate to have met him at most shows with and without m&g's and he has always been so nice and generous to the fans. I can relate to some of his songs, but the ones that I can't doesn't mean that I don't like them. There really hasn't been a bad song at all on any of his albums that he has put out, but that's just my opinion. A good few are about drinking and having a good time, some are more serious about life issues, a few sexy/love songs, and then there are the heartbreak/done me wrong songs.

In April 2007, a Florida fan, Ronna got an idea from an interview she found where Dierks mentioned that his fans/fan club are like his own Congress. She started the Dierks Bentley Congress or what most of the regular dierks.com board members recognize as DB Congress and DBC. Here is most of the message Ronna posted in Dierksville section:

"I know we already have inaugural members of the DB Congress representing many states, but let's get every state represented and Canada and our friends in Australlia and anywhere else in the world with DB supporters!

With DB as President, it is such an honor to serve as a member of the DB Congress and support him during his term of office, which unlike the real job, never expires. DB will be President of Dierksville for as long as he lives! Long live the President!

He is a great leader! He always gives credit to his cabinet--Tim, Steve, Rod and Robbie, and his Congress for helping him achieve his goals. That demonstrates his character. He is quick-witted, pleasant, down-to-earth and handles himself well with the press.

I could go on and on about the man, but it's time for all of you to share your thoughts...and your state, country, or providence you are representing. Let's go for all 50 states and 50 more countries and/or providences!"

So pretty much, the DB Congress is kind of similar to the U.S. Congress in a way. In the DBC, Dierks is our President....his band members are the cabinet members, and the fans/fan club members are all members of Congress. But unlike the U.S. Congress, we try to get as many Dierks fans as we can to represent each state, and actually anywhere in the world there is a Dierks fan can become a DBC member! So, this is a worldwide DB Congress! Right now we have members in 48/50 U.S. states, Canada, Mexico, England, Australia, and China with a total getting close to 450! I don't think any of us ever expecting for the group to grow so large even now at almost 2 years, but it's a great feeling and accomplishment!

When the DBC first started 2 years ago, people who saw Ronna's message and who were interested simply told everyone where they were representing Dierks from. After a good bit of people were joining, I noticed that there wasn't any organization of knowing how many members we had or a total from states or countries. So, I just volunteered to open up Microsoft Word and collecting everyone's info and sorting it out, and I am now known as the Secretary of the DBC and I'm darn proud of it! Other members have came up with other ideas to help promote Dierks and his music...there are wrist bands, DBC shirts, buttons, candy, etc. and some of these items are mailed to other fans for free just because others want to help promote Dierks.

Fans wear the shirts or wrist bands to shows they may be going to and Dierks sees them all throughout the crowd and I'm sure he is just overwhelmed by it all. These items are also a great conversation starter because others want to know what it is about or how to get them. ..Just another way to promote!

The DBC has had many campaigns to promote Dierks like trying to get current singles, albums or videos to #1, voting for Dierks online in any poll that fans might find, trying to get Dierks on the cover of Country Weekly magazine, and more.

For Christmas, Ronna's brother bought her a website...yes, a website! He has done a lot of work helping design it. That site is www.dbcongress.com! The site launched just last month, and we have had a lot of buzzing over there...every one loves it!! Almost every day there are new blogs posted to keep all Dierks fans informed about anything Dierks, fan concert reviews, and a lot more!

For anything Dierks related, head over to www.dbcongress.com to read blogs, find out about current campaigns, and how to become a DB Congress member!

If you still can't get enough of Dierks and the DB Congress you can also check out the myspace and facebook pages as well.
